Eastbound Train No. 2 passes the Merrillan depot painted in "C&NW 400"
colors.
Alco C-424 #313 approaches the diamond at Merrillan in this 1976 photo.
The depot is painted in a unique green and gold paint scheme to match the
C&NW's "400" trains. The depot got this paint job in the
1950s, and by the mid-70s it had begun to show its age. By 1978 it was
repainted gray with white trim.
This photo was taken by Bob Larson of Portola, California. He's a pro, as proven by his
photos in the book Western Pacific Trackside with Bob Larson
(Morning Sun books, 2000). He
grew up in Eau Claire and recently retired as a Union Pacific engineer on
the Feather River division.
