Freshly repainted Alco C-420 GBW #323 on train #2 at Plover.
This Alco C-420 was part of the last locomotive purchase by the
Green Bay Route. Originally Lehigh & Hudson River #27 and later
Conrail #2075, it came to the Green Bay & Western in March 1980 after
rebuilding at GE's facility in Hornell NY. After the demise of the
Green Bay Route, the loco was sold to the Iowa Interstate Railroad
(#850) in 1994 and eventually to the Louisville, New Alabany and Corydon in
1999, where it is still in revenue service today.
This photo shows #323 in the simplified red scheme of the last years of the
Green Bay Route. Handrails are all red except for white near the steps, and the
cab roof is red also. Other locomotives getting this paint scheme were #305,
307, 308, 309, 314, 316, and 318.
A thanks goes out to Bob Schoneman
for sharing this photo. As he
described it: "Not to be picky, but why for the life of me, I cannot figure
out how the G got crooked on several of the repaints!"
